General Guidelines

Everyone at the North Brooklyn Recovery deserves to be treated with courtesy and respect. We hold ourselves, and each other, accountable to the highest standards of mutual respect and care in all our interactions.

These Guidelines detail our expectations for everyone who uses the NBR space, whether as a Committee Member, Group Service Member, nonprofit organization representatives or an individual attendee at any meeting and/or function.


DONATION EXPECTATIONS AND DEPOSITS FOR USE OF SPACE AND EQUIPMENT

Donations are paid by groups who use the space on a monthly basis, by the 5th of each month. Donations preferably are paid via PayPal. When making a donation, please indicate the group name. 

Groups that wish to secure a meeting spot with the clubhouse are asked to give a donation of first & last month’s rent plus a security deposit. If a group believes it will be unable to provide these funds, they are welcome to contact the NBR Committee to discuss the possibility of an alternative payment structure.   

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

Groups should give a 30-day notice via email to NorthBrooklynRecovery@gmail.com if they should no longer need the space. 

 

HOUSEKEEPING

  • Please leave the space as you found it, removing any trash and cleaning up after yourselves

  • No smoking or vaping is allowed in the building per the landlord’s rules. 

  • Groups authorized to use the space are permitted to store their meeting materials in the supply closet as long as they are 1) kept orderly and 2) in a plastic container marker with the group’s name. All containers must be stored at least 6 inches above the ground per the Landlord’s instructions. NBR is not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen meeting materials stored on the premises. 

 

FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT

Groups utilizing the space shall always exercise care in their use of NBR’s furniture & equipment. Though ordinary wear-and-tear is expected with regards to some items such as chairs, tables, books, etc., NBR reserves the right to charge a group for repair or replacement of any equipment or furniture damaged or lost during the period it was rented by said group if the repair or replacement cost exceeds $20.

Under no circumstances shall groups or individuals remove from the premises or move furniture (aside from setting up chairs to fit their meeting’s needs) without the consent of the NBR Committee.

LIABILITY

Any group and/or individual that enters the space does so at their own risk, and agrees to hold NBR, 304 Boerum Street LLC, its agents, directors, officers, and employees harmless and not liable from any and all claims for damages or injuries to persons or property that arises during that group and/or individual's time spent on the premises.

PETS

North Brooklyn Recovery does not allow any pets in the meeting space. However, as per the Americans with Disabilities Act of 2010 (ADA), service dogs are permitted at any time.




Code of Conduct

PROHIBITED AND UNACCEPTABLE ACTIVITIES AND BEHAVIOR

  • Use of discriminatory language including (but not limited to) language that is racist, xenophobic, transphobic, homophobic, ageist, ableist, etc.

  • Physical violence or threat of physical violence

  • Any behavior that endangers the safety of any individual or group

  • Sexual harassment or inappropriate touching

  • Sexual or financial solicitation

  • Possession, sale or use of illegal substances

  • Consumption of alcohol in the space

  • Possession or use of weapons

  • Sexual activity or public nudity

  • Theft and vandalism

  • Inappropriate use of the restroom, including bathing and acting in a manner that is disrespectful to others

  • Use of audio without headphones or use of musical instruments

  • Smoking, Tobacco Chewing or Vaping inside the space 

  • Interfering with walkways and egress such as sitting on the floor or the steps of building

  • Removing furniture from the space

  • Handing out literature inside the space that promotes outside enterprises and/or topics such as (but not limited to) discrimination, personal politics, personal financial gain, religious beliefs, sales or use of illegal substances or weapons, obscene sexual language or images of pornography, etc.

  • Photographing or filming meeting attendees, Group Service Members, nonprofit organization representatives or NBR Committee Members without their explicit consent. 

  • Not following the directions of the NBR Committee Members

  

The NBRCommittee, Group Service Members and other nonprofit organization representatives are expected to uphold & observe the safe and proper operation of the meeting space by enforcing the rules outlined in this Code of Conduct.

ENFORCEMENT/REPORTING GUIDELINES

Unacceptable behavior from any individual or group will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to cease a violating behavior is expected to comply immediately or they will be asked to leave the premises. Authorized members or representatives may additionally decide to take any action deemed appropriate, including but not limited to, a temporary or permanent suspension from NBR. In extreme cases and as a last resort, authorized members or representatives may contact the NYPD for support. 

If an individual attendee witnesses violating or inappropriate behavior, we ask that they report the incident to an authorized representative or, in the event that no representative is present, report to the NBR Committee by email at northbrooklynrecovery@gmail.com or by calling the on-call NBR Committee member listed on the announcements board. 

 

In extreme cases of emergency and/or on-going illegal activity by individuals that are refusing to comply with said directions by authorized representatives, we encourage contacting the NYPD for support by dialing 911.

 

The Code of Conduct will be enforced without regard to an individual’s identity, including but not limited to age, race, ethnicity, gender identity or sexual orientation.

 

ADDRESSING GRIEVANCES

If you feel you have been falsely or unfairly accused of violating the Code of Conduct, you should notify the NBR Committee by emailing northbrooklynrecovery@gmail.com. Your concern will be reviewed & addressed by the NBR Committee and a determination will be made, which will be sent to you via email or mail.

 

CONSIDERATION OF LIFTING CLUBHOUSE SUSPENSION

Whenever possible and when deemed admissible, the NBR Committee will support opportunities for individuals found to be in violation of this code of conduct and suspended from the building to fully reintegrate into the space. This may include a two-way discussion and recognition of the harm caused to people, making amends and forgiveness.
